Powell Street 2010 Photos up!

2010 Vancouver Powell Street Festival a great success!

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this years KAC - Vancouver Powell Street Festival demo such a success.  Not only was it one of the largest audiences we've had, but it was without question the most polished presentation we've ever given as well.   Also thank to Mario who once again acted as the offical KAC - Vancouver photographer for our PSF demo.  You can see Mario's pictures in our gallery.

Also a personal thank you to everyone who came to the annual PSF party at my place.  With so many people preparing food, cleaning dishes and organizing the room, it left me with a tidier place than when the party started!

Again, thanks to everyone for a wonderful festival.  Congratulations to you all!

Michael

"Ironman" Kyudo Taikai

yatsugae_sm.jpg Thursday, 29 July 10 - 06:59 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Motomasa Mori in Vancouver KAC news

The KAC Vancouver club will be participating in the "Ironman" Kyudo Taikai, along with clubs from the USA, Mexico, and Argentina on August 7, 2010. The idea of the event is to have each participant shoot 100 arrows.

We will be holding a special extended class starting at 3 PM and going into the evening.  We'll be ordering pizza to fuel ourselves for this special taikai.

The basic rules are to have a 100 arrow taikai (kinteki 28mts). The archer must shoot 20 arrows in Standard Taikai style, the last 80 arrows are free shots. There is a facebook page for the event which can be found here.

Help spread Kyudo in Toronto!

User photo not available Thursday, 15 July 10 - 07:11 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Kyudo Toronto in Toronto KAC News
In order to accommodate the increased demand for Kyudo instruction, we are looking for volunteer instructors to work with the group that practice Kyudo at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre.  The current class schedule is every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Duties include Kyudo instruction as well as helping with set-up.   We would prefer ni-dan or higher to work with our current instructor(go-dan); English language proficiency is helpful, but Japanese can be used to communicate with many of our students.  Interested persons should contact (in English or Japanese)  kyudo.toronto@gmail.com.

Saturday was Nichole's last class with us before she leaves for Japan for a year.  To mark the occasion, we nicknamed the day's Taikai "The Nicky Cup" (awarded to Alice who had the most hits) and had a BBQ on the beach.  See you next year Nicky!

"Jutsu and Do" - by Nick Lowry

yatsugae_sm.jpg Friday, 11 June 10 - 09:19 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Motomasa Mori in KAC News

A great article posted by Mr. French to Facebook... thought it would be worth a read for most people who do kyudo. Though he never specifically talks about mushin there are definitely overtones about it.

It starts:

Innumerable times over the years students have come to ask the difference between JUTSU and DO, and for the most part my answers have always been to describe the basic surface distinctions — the historical, the philosophical, technical — the simple pragmatic basis of JUTSU as the basic military or soldierly training model, and DO, the modern pursuit of excellence and self actualization, the making of happier, healthier people and society and such.

It is much deeper than that. On a most basic level JUTSU is the madness of violence and DO is the sanity of nonviolence.

Japan Pictures...

yatsugae_sm.jpg Monday, 07 June 10 - 04:46 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Motomasa Mori in Gallery

I forgot to put up a little note here, that I have added a new gallery with pictures from the 2010 IKYF Seminar/Taikai. You can see them here.

I didn't get to take as many pictures during the A-Seminar (4-dan and up) so if anybody has anything to add, please let me know!
